In frequent states of disarray often on the verge of collapse, Jo’s work centres on the body embracing a sense of ‘nomadism’ and ‘otherness’.

Her sculptural pieces tell a story of migration, exile and self-protection, issues which Jo has personal resonance with.

‘I feel an instant connection to objects that have been discarded yet contain a certain beauty that tell a story of past history’.

Drifting, shelter and protection are themes that are evident in her work.

Drawing is a primary source, three- dimensional line and free expression are translated into structural pieces using cloth that is manipulated through processes such as print and embroidery.

Metals such as aluminium and copper engage with a ‘tough outer skin’.

Juxtaposition of elements serve as a reference point for much of the extremism in society.

Recent work by Jo Scorah has seen a return to more fine art painting on canvas.
