Work led by Jo Scorah

‘In the hands of Women’

Banner dress depicting the multi- cultural community of Manchester. Bearing symbolic references to religion and culture, the dress reflects many customs, memories and even recipes from their past heritage.

With the objective of developing mutual understanding and tolerance, the project gave the ladies a voice to promote their own identity.

Laure Prouvost

‘The long weighted, waited gathering’ Video Installation

Inspired by the Museum’s history as a former Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue, Prouvost ‘s new work for Manchester International Festival focused on her trademark bird imagery as well as the unique bird’s eye view of the women sitting high above the men, chattering to each other.

The Women’s textile Group interpreted Laure’s drawings using pictorial references of family testimonials Into the beautiful embroidered panels surrounding the film.
